Once a year, generally on a weekend, devotees of His Holiness Swami Bodhananda and friends of the Sambodh Center for Human Excellence gather together for intensive Mantra Sadhana. This two-day program consists of three sessions during which, one by one, each mantra becomes the focus of our meditation.

aum gam ganapataye namah

The first session has traditionally been the Ganesh Gayatri, which, when chanted in all sincerity, removes the obstacles in one’s path to Spiritual Realization.

The Dhanvantari Mantra, chanted during the middle session, assists the seeker in drawing forth spiritual energy to create good health and healing, so that one’s body becomes a fit vehicle for both fulfilling life’s karmas as well as for Spiritual Realization.

The mantra selected for final session consists of a Devi mantra, although the particular Devi mantra we chant has varied over the years. Devi mantras are chanted for spiritual purification and the awakening of Shakti.

Led by Swamiji, each mantra is chanted 1008 times. Participants are encouraged to join in the chanting and often slip into meditative silence. Otherwise, silence is observed during the sadhana period and even during the vegetarian potluck lunch or dinner that we share. If weather permits, participants are encouraged to join in a walking meditation through the woodlands of Sambodh Aranya, or to sit in meditation in the glass enclosed Shiva Shrine which rests in the center of the only open area of the 32-acre ashram grounds, sustaining the mantra mindfully, subtly and energetically throughout Mantra Sadhana. Communal practice of mantra, especially with the auditory and subtle vibrations of Swamiji’s chanting, enhances one’s private meditation practice of these mantras. Participants are encouraged to maintain their individual practice of these mantras to sustain the vibrations gleaned from these special days of communal Mantra Sadhana.
